The stature of Venus of Taurida (3rd century B.C.) once stood in the palace of Prince Potemkin of Taurida, hence its name. It was the first antique stature to be brought to Russia. Peter the Great had to offer the Pope the relics of St.Brigitta in return for the stature already bought for Russia but arrested by the governor of the Rome.
